Run SignageSpace on ChromeOSChromeOS runs the player as an installed app rather than a downloaded one. On a managed device it can be set to boot straight into the player in kiosk mode, so the screen comes back on its own after a power cut.

Open the player in Chrome — Go to app.signagespace.com on the Chromebook. This is the same player every other route ends at; on ChromeOS the browser is the runtime, so there is nothing to sideload.

Install it as an app — Use the install icon at the right of the address bar, or ⋮ → Cast, save and share → Install page as app. It then has its own icon in the launcher and opens full screen with no tabs or address bar — which is what you want on a wall.

Read the six-letter code — Open the installed app and it shows a six-letter code. From here nothing about this device is different from any other screen.

Stop the screen going to sleep — In Settings → Device → Power, set the display not to sleep while charging. The player also asks ChromeOS to keep the display awake while it is playing, but the device setting is what survives a reboot.

Optional: make it boot into the player (kiosk) — Unattended screens need the device to come back on its own. That means enrolling it in Google Admin and adding the player as a kiosk web app by URL, then setting it to auto-launch — in the Admin console this lives under Devices → Chrome → Apps & extensions → Kiosks. Google requires a Chrome Enterprise licence for this; without one the player still runs, but somebody has to open it after every reboot.

Optional: set the power and rotation policies centrally — While the device is managed, set its power settings to never sleep and, for a portrait screen, set the display rotation — both from the same Admin console, so a replacement device inherits them without anyone touching the screen on the wall.

An old laptop instead of a ChromebookChromeOS Flex installs on most Intel PCs and Macs from a USB stick, free, and runs the player the same way. It is the cheapest way to turn hardware you already have into a signage player — and the only ChromeOS route on machines that cannot run Android apps at all.

Build the USB installer — Install the Chromebook Recovery Utility extension on any Chrome browser, pick ChromeOS Flex as the model, and write it to an 8 GB USB stick.

Boot the machine from it — Boot from USB, try ChromeOS Flex live first to check the screen and network come up, then install it. From there, follow the steps above from the first one.
